Touring the Aeolian Islands - Salina

Monday, 9 October 2017

This is the beach just below our hotel in Salina just below the hotel.

Malfa is the biggest town on the island. When we say ‘big’ it’s really pretty sleepy. This is the main port.
Trevor needed to climb a hill, as you do, when you’re a nutjob. As it happens, Monte Fossa Delle Felci is the highest mountain the Aeolian Islands (962 metres). I declined the invitation to climb it. Trevor went on his own.

Trevor found a new friend to go on the walk with. His name was dog. Or maybe it was dog that was looking for someone to go on a walk with. Whatever. They went all the way to the top and the bottom of the mountain together. Dog did not whine once. Good outcome.
Dinner at our hotel who a renowned restaurant offering Aeolian cuisine. It did not disappoint.

Something we had never tried before - snail caviar. Yes, snail eggs! It was quite nice but I think I prefer Salmon roe.

Ravioli with black pork ragu filling. Super delicious!

A very lovely visit to Hauner winery. They are specifically famous for their dessert wines.
