Taking Tasca to Task

Tuesday, 24 October 2017
For the final night of our holiday we had booked a room at the winery Tasca D'almerita Regaleali in the centre of Sicily. The place was gorgeous and the experience was awesome.  The countryside on the way was really beautiful.

On the not so plus side was the “cu-clunkers” or huge pot holes in many of the roads. On the way we passed through the town of Corleone. Not much to see there, but since it was the town Mario Puzo decided to give as the surname to the character Vito, the Godfather in The Godfather, we thought it was worth a picture.
We knew that as part of the booking, lunch, dinner and a wine tour/tasting were included but we didn’t really know what to expect. Upon arrival at our destination the hostess greeted us, and after giving us some time to settle in, she took us to the main hall where we had aperitivo. She opened a couple of bottles of wine and gave us some background about the history of the winery and some specifics about those wines. Then they brought out some focaccia and ricotta dumplings, yum, then a minute later they brought Panelle, which are deep fried chickpea bites, a famous Sicilian street food – this was the best version of it we tasted. As we were enjoying these, our hostess said she would check to see if our lunch was ready.

This is us enjoying a tour of the wine making facilities and having another tasting.
This is us enjoying after dinner drinks by the fireplace.
Next day we had a walk around the property and the vineyards.
