Stayed in the historic centre of Syracusa, Ortigia Island. We think it was one of the most beautiful places we visited in all of Sicily.

Late afternoon in Ortigia’s beautiful baroque Piazza Duomo di Siracusa. The Duomo was built on the ruins of the Temple of Athena, dating back to the 5th century BCE. In the interior of the Duomo you could see they had filled in the spaces between the pillars of the original pagan temples to create the church.
